Our 7th School Partnership: The Fashion Foundation Had a Blast With PSIS 155!

PTA President Rasheeda White!
The Fashion Foundation is proud to announce that we have completed our seventh school donation to PSIS 155 in Brooklyn, NY! Not only have we increased our school partnerships substantially to begin 2016, but this past donation marked $18,000+ worth of school supplies donated from our organization! This is an incredible feat as we continue to help more and more students in need.

Fashion Foundation founder, Amanda Munz, and host committee member Megan Melofchik spent the day with students at PSIS 155. The Foundation was able to donate an essential list of supplies for students, which included new uniforms, art supplies, notebooks and gym gear—basketballs, footballs and hula hoops!

Not only were our two important members of The Foundation front and center with the elementary students, but local Brooklyn charity “What About the Children” also graciously joined the fun and attended the day with Amanda and Megan. In addition, we were privileged with the opportunity to work with PTA president, Rasheeda White, who was a great help during all of the daytime festivities.

The Foundation hosted a painting party with the students, in which over 100 wooden picture frames were supplied for the children to present their projects in—a wonderful gift for the families during the Valentine’s Day season.

*****

What most people don’t realize is that of the 535 students that attend PSIS 155, about 200 live in shelters. That’s about 37 percent of the class population. It’s a harsh reality such as this one that motivates The Fashion Foundation to help in any way that it can.

But it starts with you, the people who volunteer to donate and support our mission. A year ago, The Foundation was working on securing its third school partnership. Now, we are working towards an eighth. This would not be possible without those of you who help The Foundation grow each and every day. We thank you.

Special thanks to Brooklyn Charity “What About Children” and PTA president, Rasheeda White, for all for all of your help, and for teaming up with us to provide the students of PSIS 155 a day that they well deserved.

Please do not forget to donate at our website: www.thefashionfoundation.org, like us on Facebook @ www.facebook.com/thefashionfoundation, and of course, like us on Twitter at the handle, @FashFoundation.

Till next time!

The Beginning of it All: A Year Later, The Fashion Foundation Thanks PS 325

On June 13, 2014, The Fashion Foundation completed its first-ever donation to PS 325 and its 276 students in Harlem, NY. Now, 365 days later, we pay tribute to the moment that helped jump start our organization’s mission to help students in need.

Thousands of school supplies donated and four partnering schools later, The Foundation has matured into a promising non-profit organization that’s here to make an impact. We thank PS 325 for helping us build on our reputation as a reputable, charitable organization, and also contributing to the start of our spreading support.

In honor of this anniversary, we’d like to recap our first donation with PS 325 and reflect on how that wonderful moment has contributed to what The Foundation is today:

The Beginning…

  • On May 8th, 2014, The Fashion Foundation met with the administrative staff at PS 325—an elementary school in a high-poverty area in Harlem, NY.  The school consisted of about 300 students from grades K-5 who were in need of our help.

  • Our Founder, Amanda Munz, reached out to the Assistant Principal and asked, “What do your students need?” Excited, he told Amanda that the school was about to participate in their annual “Travel the World Day,” where each classroom is assigned a different country that they must research. The students would create poster-board presentations and decorate their classroom according to which country was issued to them.

  • But there was one problem; the students in PS 325 did not have the art supplies to execute the assignments. This created an opportunity for The Foundation to help.

  • With sales from its website, The Fashion Foundation was able to raise approximately $1,500 to purchase art supplies: Paint, glue sticks, paper, scissors and markers were among the items donated.

  • The Foundation and our founder, Amanda, were invited and privileged to spend the entire day at PS 325 during Travel the World Day. The students had lovely decorations and posters on display, and food and drinks were shared by all.

Here are some photos from that fantastic event:

We thank PS 325 for trusting in us that day and maintaining this rewarding partnership. Of course, our growth within this year could not be possible without our supporters also. We thank everyone who has donated to The Foundation, and we are forever grateful for the volunteers who have sacrificed their time to helping set-up charity events, pop-up shops and other important affairs.

As we continue to build on this momentum, we ask that you share our mission with friends and family. A wise partner of The Foundation has stated previously, “Maybe [we] haven’t changed the world (yet), but to have made a difference in changing a life for even one person makes it easier to start again tomorrow.”

As always, don’t forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. You can donate by visiting our site @ www.thefashionfoundation.org. Take care fellow blogg-ians!
