Interview with the Host Committee: Part 7

Hello, again!

First of all, let me quickly say that this past Saturday was our Fall into Fashion Fundraiser! With nearly 200 people in attendance, we had a fabulous time with music, dancing and raffles galore! Be sure to stay tuned for a post about the event!

Anyway, this week, I'd like to introduce you all to Alexis! A member of our host committee and the chief of selling tickets, Alexis draws on her fashion education and experience to help the Foundation achieve its every goal! Please keep reading to learn more about Alexis.

Can you please provide a brief description of yourself? (Hobbies, college(s) attended: major, minor, year graduated; what you’d like to do for your career). I graduated in 2014 from the Fashion Institute of Technology, where I majored in Fashion Merchandising Management with a specialization in buying and planning. I currently work at Calvin Klein as the Men's Apparel Merchandise Coordinator.
Do you volunteer with any other organizations? What are you passionate about? Currently I only volunteer with The Fashion Foundation. I have always been passionate about volunteering. All throughout high school I belonged to different clubs that revolved around helping others and benefiting the community.  I was even the president of the Red Cross Club.  One of my favorite quotes is "Helping people will not necessarily change the world, but it will change the world for them"
What is your daytime job and what is your position/title at The Fashion Foundation? I currently work at Calvin Klein as the Men's Apparel Merchandise Coordinator and I am on the Host Committee for the fashion foundation.
Can you give us a brief description of your job responsibilities at The Foundation? How long have you been volunteering with the Fashion Foundation? I have been volunteering with The Fashion Foundation for over a year now. My responsibilities include working with the host committee to plan events and raise awareness through social media and networking events to attract potential donors.
How did you become involved with The Foundation? How did you hear about the organization? I first learned about The Fashion Foundation through Facebook. I attended FIT with Amanda and I would see her post about the foundation. Once I saw her post that she needed members for the host committee I knew immediately I wanted to be involved.
Why did you choose The Foundation? In your opinion, what separates The Foundation from any other charitable nonprofit organization? I love the idea of using fashion as a means to create awareness and give back to students in need.
What’s your favorite part about being a volunteer? I love working with the host committee. They are all amazing people and truly make planning this event so much fun!
Do you have any plans for the upcoming Fall season (both for the Foundation and otherwise)? I celebrated my 23rd Birthday 2 days before our event.
Looking forward, what are some of the things you wish to do to help The Foundation achieve its goal of helping children in need? I hope to help our events grow and evolve into an amazing fundraiser that creates awareness and raises donations for students.
Lastly, can you give our readers a reason why participating and/or donating to The Foundation is worth their while? Supporting the education of our youth is so significant because they are the future. They will be our future leaders and I don't know about you, but I personally would like our future leaders to have the best education opportunities.
Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself? I'm obsessed with Starbucks coffee and my favorite color is pink. I also have a twin sister and I love fashion!

I'd personally like to extend a huge THANK YOU to Alexis and the entire crew for helping the Fashion Foundation be where it is today! Amanda, your passion and dedication is truly unmatched and admirable! Thank you for all that you guys do for children in need.

Gina (left)

Can you please provide a brief description of yourself? (Hobbies, college(s) attended: major, minor, year graduated; what you’d like to do for your career). I graduated UMass Amherst in 2012 with a bachelors degree in Journalism and Communications. I am now a publicist at a leading public relations and brand building firm, Relevance New York in Manhattan. Some of my hobbies including exploring New York City with friends, seeing a Broadway show, trying a new restaurant, working out and volunteering for The Fashion Foundation.
Do you volunteer with any other organizations? What are you passionate about? I don't volunteer with any other organizations, but often donate to other charities that my family and friends are involved with. I am passionate about my job as a publicist, traveling, and volunteering for a good cause.
What is your daytime job and what is your position/title at The Fashion Foundation? My daytime job is a publicist at a leading public relations and brand building firm, Relevance New York in Manhattan. At The Fashion Foundation, I am a Fundraising Committee Member.
Can you give us a brief description of your job responsibilities at The Foundation? How long have you been volunteering with the Fashion Foundation? As a Fundraising Committee Member, I help with ticket sales, raffle donations and sponsorship for the upcoming fundraiser.
How did you become involved with The Foundation? How did you hear about the organization?  I met Amanda, the founder of The Fashion Foundation, at a Levo League networking event, where she shared her story about starting the foundation.
Why did you choose The Foundation? In your opinion, what separates The Foundation from any other charitable nonprofit organization?  Listening to Amanda's story, I became inspired and instantly knew that I wanted to be involved. I love fashion, wanted to be involved in the fashion industry in some way. I was also looking for an organization to volunteer for that could hopefully tie in my passion for fashion - and The Fashion Foundation was the answer! What I think separates The Foundation from other charitable organizations, is that it combines the two worlds - fashion to give back to education.
What’s your favorite part about being a volunteer?  My favorite part about being a volunteer is that I am working towards a cause that means a lot to my family and friends, because many of them are teachers. I love being able to make a difference in someone's life and help improve their education, and give them the tools to succeed.
What are some of the things you wish to accomplish personally through your involvement with The Foundation? I hope to help The Foundation raise money at its fundraiser, and continue to raise money through its online store. I want to work towards getting The Foundation more recognized on a global scale, to help spread its efforts and continue to help more schools in New York City. Hopefully, we will be able to help schools across the country.
Will you be attending the Fall into Fashion Fundraiser on September 26th at 7 p.m.? Why do you believe others should attend this event? I will definitely be attending the fundraiser! Not only is it a night of dancing, an open bar and great raffle prizes - it is all supporting an important cause. All of us have been affected by our education, so we can all relate.
Do you have any plans for the upcoming Fall season (both for the Foundation and otherwise)? This Fall I want to continue working with The Fashion Foundation to raise money to buy school supplies.
Looking forward, what are some of the things you wish to do to help The Foundation achieve its goal of helping children in need? I want to work towards making strategic and permanent partnerships with brands and stores to donate items to be sold on The Foundation's online store.
Lastly, can you give our readers a reason why participating and/or donating to The Foundation is worth their while? All of us have been affected by our education, so we can all easily relate. We remember our favorite class, our favorite teacher, our favorite subject. One of my favorite quotes is, "The direction in which education starts, a man will determine his future in life." - Plato
The tools The Foundation donates to schools, will hopefully be tools in inspiring a child's future goals and dreams.

Behind the Lines: An Interview With the Host Committee: Part 2

I'm so excited to be writing the second installment of our "Behind the Lines" blog series. In case you haven't yet read our previous post, we will be interviewing each of our volunteers, because we truly think it's important that you all get to know us better!

Heather French Henry once said, "Volunteering is at the very core of being human. No one has made it through life without someone else's help." Volunteers, in my opinion, are so special and, ultimately, essential for the progression of our world!

So, why do volunteers dedicate time to work on things? Because we're passionate and, though we're not paid in money, we are paid in gratification, fulfillment and purpose. For this post, we've interviewed Paige, our much-appreciated host committee member and Chief of Volunteers. To learn more about Paige, what she does within our organizations and why, please continue to read her exclusive interview below!

Paige (left) with Foundation founder Amanda Munz (center) and other fellow volunteers!

Can you please provide a brief description of yourself for our readers? (Hobbies, college(s) attended: major, minor, year graduated; what you’d like to do for your career). I attended Eastern Connecticut State University and graduated in May 2014 with a degree in Business Administration, Marketing focus. Some hobbies would include, volunteering my time for The Fashion Foundation, hiking, going to the beach and traveling.
Do you volunteer with any other organizations? What are you passionate about? In the past I have volunteered for a multitude of other organizations, but within the past year I have also volunteered for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund’s Super Saturday in the Hamptons.
What is your daytime job and what is your position/title at The Fashion Foundation? I am currently employed by Autumn Cashmere as a wholesale sales assistant. For The Fashion Foundation I participate as an Event Committee Member, where I work with ticket sales, and obtaining donations and sponsorships for upcoming events.
How did you become involved with The Foundation? How did you hear about the organization? I actually had found out about The Foundation via Instagram and was immediately drawn to Amanda’s story and her goals for The Foundation. I ended up emailing her, we met for coffee where I expressed my interest in helping out and the rest is history!
Fashion Foundation Chief of Volunteers, Paige
Can you give us a brief description of your job responsibilities at The Foundation? What are some of the recent activities you have worked on for The FF? As of late it has been a lot of pushing for ticket sales and gaining sponsorships. A major priority of The Fashion Foundation is still to spread the word seeing that we are still a startup. So my responsibilities at this point are a combination of the above.
What’s your favorite part about being a volunteer? My favorite part of being a volunteer for The Fashion Foundation is getting involved with something that is so important to the future of our Nation. Bettering the education of our youths through providing school supplies does not get the coverage that it should on a day to day basis. My personal favorite is the fact that I get to mix my love for fashion while helping those who can’t always help themselves.
Why did you choose The Foundation? In your opinion, what separates The Foundation from any other charitable nonprofit organization? I loved that it was a small startup nonprofit that was local and had big dreams and intentions to better the lives of others.
What are some of the things you wish to accomplish personally through your involvement with The Foundation? I have not yet been able to attend a donation day at a school since I work full time, but that is definitely something I would like to personally accomplish. Getting to see the children’s faces and spend some time with them would definitely add to this experience.
Looking forward, what are some of the things you wish to do to help The Foundation achieve its goal of helping children in need? I’m hoping that in the future I can aid in making these events that we plan well known and larger than life.
Lastly, can you give our readers a reason why participating and/or donating to The Foundation is worth their while. Have you ever had a teacher who didn’t have chalk to teach their students with? Or maybe you couldn’t afford your textbooks or notebooks that school year? Well these are the problems we are solving. You can’t succeed in the school system without those things. Teachers and students alike, and we at The Fashion Foundation would like to change that so our next generations are as bright and amazing as ever.
On behalf of all of us at the Fashion Foundation, thank you, Paige, for your contributions and your time to help us make the world a better place for children!
