What’s not to like about the middle of March? Spring is
quickly approaching while St. Patrick’s Day has arrived. And for all of you
mathematicians and pie eating folks out there, you get to merge the best of
both worlds with National Pi day! But this past Saturday, March 14th,
we here at The Fashion Foundation had even greater things cooking as we hosted
our much anticipated “Denim and Diamonds” donation event with our partner
Bloomingdale’s!
It was business as usual for our Founder Amanda, and Board
VP Stephanie, as they began the afternoon setting up shop in the middle aisle
of Bloomingdale’s in Roosevelt Field Mall. The colorful women’s clothing
hanging on the racks behind them, provided a mixture of lively spring hues
appropriate for the time of year. Music from the store speakers filled the air with
upbeat pop tunes, which coincided with the spirit of the people who donated to
us. Not even the gloomy weather and heavy rain could keep away the generous
supporters who wound up providing bags, and bags of denim donations to The
Foundation.
As the afternoon progressed, store associates handed out
tasty sugar cookies in the shape of pant jeans—a lovely touch that welcomed
customers to our table. And despite the high volume of shoppers that day,
people continued to stop and inquire about our mission, and discover why we
believe so strongly in what we do. As
the event concluded, The Foundation received a great amount of product that will soon be available on the site for purchase.
Amanda and Stephanie agreed that it was encouraging to hear
praise from the people who support The Foundation’s vision. Most people found
it admirable that The Foundation doesn’t just cut a check to its school
partners, but instead, chooses to get involved with the experience directly by taking a list of what a school needs, and then proceeding to drop off the supplies to the children themselves. Along with many wishes of luck and offerings of support, some people provided us with touching stories about themselves. There were women who shared stories about their recent weight loss, and decided that instead of throwing away their old jeans that no longer fit them, donating to a worthy cause would be much more useful. It’s further evidence of how our supporters are such inspiring people.
So, in honor of another successful outing for The Foundation, we’d like to give a special thanks to Bloomingdale’s for providing us with this wonderful opportunity, and we’d like to thank our wonderful volunteers: Paige Davidson and Steven Guarascio, for selflessly donating their time to help execute this special event. Most importantly, we want to thank our supporters for breathing the life into our cause day in and day out; we would not be here without you.
As a reminder, be sure to keep a close eye on our website for updates and upcoming events. Of course, you can donate to The Foundation at any time by visiting www.thefashionfoundation.org. Do not forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter! Happy spring to everyone!
