The Beginning of it All: A Year Later, The Fashion Foundation Thanks PS 325

On June 13, 2014, The Fashion Foundation completed its first-ever donation to PS 325 and its 276 students in Harlem, NY. Now, 365 days later, we pay tribute to the moment that helped jump start our organization’s mission to help students in need.

Thousands of school supplies donated and four partnering schools later, The Foundation has matured into a promising non-profit organization that’s here to make an impact. We thank PS 325 for helping us build on our reputation as a reputable, charitable organization, and also contributing to the start of our spreading support.

In honor of this anniversary, we’d like to recap our first donation with PS 325 and reflect on how that wonderful moment has contributed to what The Foundation is today:

The Beginning…

  • On May 8th, 2014, The Fashion Foundation met with the administrative staff at PS 325—an elementary school in a high-poverty area in Harlem, NY.  The school consisted of about 300 students from grades K-5 who were in need of our help.

  • Our Founder, Amanda Munz, reached out to the Assistant Principal and asked, “What do your students need?” Excited, he told Amanda that the school was about to participate in their annual “Travel the World Day,” where each classroom is assigned a different country that they must research. The students would create poster-board presentations and decorate their classroom according to which country was issued to them.

  • But there was one problem; the students in PS 325 did not have the art supplies to execute the assignments. This created an opportunity for The Foundation to help.

  • With sales from its website, The Fashion Foundation was able to raise approximately $1,500 to purchase art supplies: Paint, glue sticks, paper, scissors and markers were among the items donated.

  • The Foundation and our founder, Amanda, were invited and privileged to spend the entire day at PS 325 during Travel the World Day. The students had lovely decorations and posters on display, and food and drinks were shared by all.

Here are some photos from that fantastic event:

We thank PS 325 for trusting in us that day and maintaining this rewarding partnership. Of course, our growth within this year could not be possible without our supporters also. We thank everyone who has donated to The Foundation, and we are forever grateful for the volunteers who have sacrificed their time to helping set-up charity events, pop-up shops and other important affairs.

As we continue to build on this momentum, we ask that you share our mission with friends and family. A wise partner of The Foundation has stated previously, “Maybe [we] haven’t changed the world (yet), but to have made a difference in changing a life for even one person makes it easier to start again tomorrow.”

As always, don’t forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. You can donate by visiting our site @ www.thefashionfoundation.org. Take care fellow blogg-ians!
